Manchester Haunted

Paranormal Investigation Team

Here is a list of some of the equipment we use on investigations.

Digital Camcorder

Having a camcorder is highly important for investigations. Also important to have extra batteries and extra tapes/dvd's. One thing to make sure (and probably most important) is that it has night vision capabilities. Also to have a video editing software to compile your investigations.

CCTV system

Consisting of: 4 send and recieve wireless night vision cameras, a 4 way quad mutli-plexer and a TV/video combi. This is highly important for investigations. To be set up in 4 different rooms and record them all night. Only problem is going through all the hours of footage the next day in hope of there being something there. Important note is to record straight to VHS as digital footage can be tampered with and is not considered proof.

Laptop

Having a laptop is a multi-perpose tool. Great for storing information, connecting to cameras and recording EVP's, especially when used with certain software such as Audacity. A great program for capturing EVP's.

Digital and 35mm camera's

These are very important for capturing orbs etc. There is lots of debate what people prefere . Digital cameras are of a better quality but pictures can be tampered with but with 35mm film cameras the quality is low but the pictures can't be tampered with. One thing to note with 35mm film is to tell whoever is developing them not to enhance the pictures in anyway. I myself prefere the digital camera as I trust the people we work with and know if something is found it can be trusted after carefull scrutiny.

EMF (electro Magnetic Field) Meter

EMF meters are a scientific instrument for measuring electromagnetic radiation fluctuations. Many people believe that flutuations in these fields could be linked to paranormal activity. One important thing to do is to take readings (base line tests) before you start your investigation so that you are already aware of where there are peaks and where there are not. So if you do get readings later on in the evening you will know which ones to pay special attention to.

LASER (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation)Temperature Gun

Many paranormal investigators believe that changes in temprature could be linked to paranormal activity. The theory being that spirits draw on the temptrature of the room to try and manifest themselves. So having LASER temperature gun is the perfect way to moniter these changes. Always make sure before hand in your base line tests that you have accounted for every draft or "natural" temprature drops in the building.

MP3 and Tape Recorders

These are great for capturing EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena). Should be used while calling out and also can be put in a locked of room to see what they pick up. There are many EVP's that have been caught and are very interesting phenomena.

Walkie Talkies

Important so that you can keep in contact with other team members. You should always make sure you can be in contact with your different teams at all times.

Motion detectors

These should be placed in a locked of room that paranomal activity has been reported. If the alarm goes of and everyone is accounted for I would advise spending sometime in that room.

Spirit Board

These should be used in Seance or glass divination experiments. They are a means of connecting with spirits that may be in the building you are investigating. Whether you believe in this or not I urge you never to use one without having a psycic present to open and safetly close the board. You don't want unwanted guests coming home with you.

Other things needed

  • Table. Used for table tipping experiments and for putting your spirit board on. Some places may have a table to use already there but if you turn up and there isn't one it is a good idea to have one handy.
  • A computer desktop microphone for connecting to a laptop and capturing EVP's . Most new laptops have a mic built in but the quality isn't as good as a seperate one.
  • Software for PC or laptops for capturing EVP's. The one I would recommend would be Audacity. Easy to use and its best tool is that ylou can see where the noises take place which saves you going through hours of footage waiting for a sound.
  • Trigger Objects. These should be put in a locked of room. They can be anything from a cross to toy cars. Best way to use these would be to place them in a tray full of flour. So much in the same way a car leaves tyre tracks in the snow you may find that when you return to the room they may have moved. Also, if you have left a locked of camera to film the movement even better!!
  • Lastly and in my opinion the most important. A pen and note pad, somebody should be documenting everything that happened the whole night. This helps with writing up the investigation's findings and experiences and makes sure nothing is missed. Helpfull to have a pen that lights up as well as trying to write in the dark is pretty much impossible, I have tried.
